Best FELCO Electric Pruners: Which Model Fits Your Work

Choosing an electric pruner really depends on the kind of work waiting for you. A gardener trimming roses on the weekend needs a very different tool from an arborist working orchards all day.

That’s why FELCO has eight electric pruners rather than one tool trying to do everything. Match the tool to the job and the choice gets easier.

Cordless or Corded? The First Decision

A cordless pruner keeps the battery inside the tool. There’s nothing else to carry, so you can move around freely while you work

A corded pruner connects by a cable to a FELCO 882 power pack, a battery worn on a belt or harness. So "corded" doesn't mean plugged into a wall socket. With the battery weight carried on your body, the pruner can deliver more cutting power.

Cordless models give you more freedom to move, while corded models are built for full days of professional pruning.

FELCO 2e. Lightweight Electric Pruner for Home Gardens

The FELCO 2e is a lightweight electric pruner built for gardeners rather than commercial crews. It's the electric version of the classic FELCO 2, built for regular pruning around the home garden.

If you’re ready to move from a traditional hand pruner to an electric one, the FELCO 2e is a good place to start.

FELCO 2e

Key features:

  • Cutting capacity: 1.06 in
  • Weight: 1.94 lb with battery attached
  • Runtime: up to 3,000 cuts per charge
  • Power: 10.8 V 3.0 Ah battery with USB-C charging, not a proprietary brick
  • CUT SHIELD safety system, which reduces the risk of accidental cuts and requires the supplied conductive gloves
  • F-Tech coating, which reduces sap sticking to the blade

Who it's for?
Someone with fruit trees, shrubs and roses. As an electric hand pruner, the 2e suits a keen home gardener who works most weekends but doesn't prune for a living.

Not the right fit if:
You prune all day commercially. For that workload, the 834 series or the corded range hold up better under heavy use.

What's in the kit?
Pruner, battery, USB-C cable, FELCO 707 conductive gloves, lubricating spray, and a carrying case.

FELCO 834W. Cordless Power for Thick Branches

The FELCO 834W is one of FELCO's more powerful cordless pruning shears. It’s designed for arborists, landscapers and orchard work where thick wood is common and you need a heavy-duty tool.

The 834 series includes three models. They use the same body, batteries, charger and CUT SHIELD safety system, but each has a different cutting head for the job it’s designed to do. That means the battery and charging details below also apply to the 834V and 834H.

felco 834w

Key features:

  • Cutting capacity: 1.34 in, enough for heavy branch and tree work
  • Weight: 2.29 lb (net) with battery
  • Power: two interchangeable 14.4 V 3.0 Ah batteries, so one charges while the other works
  • Charger: global dual charger with EU, USA, and AUS plugs
  • F-Gold blade for clean cutting through thick wood
  • CUT SHIELD safety system, which reduces the risk of accidental cuts and requires the supplied conductive gloves

Who it's for?
Arborists and landscapers who move around a lot while they work. With no cable or power pack to deal with, the 834W makes it easier to move between trees and around larger sites.

Not the right fit if:
You’re mainly pruning around a home garden. The 834W is heavier and considerably more expensive than the 2e, without much benefit if you don’t regularly cut thicker branches.

What's in the kit?
Batteries, charger, conductive gloves, holster, maintenance tools, adjustment keys and a case. A telescopic pole bundle is available, 59.06 in closed to 96.46 in extended for high work.

FELCO 834V. Built for Vineyard Pruning

The FELCO 834V is a cordless electric pruner with a cutting head shaped specifically for vine wood. It’s designed for cane and spur pruning through the winter, when vineyard crews can spend weeks working their way through row after row.

felco 834v electric wine pruner

Key features:

  • Cutting capacity: 1.18 in
  • Weight: 2.2 lb (net) with battery
  • Power: two swappable 14.4 V batteries
  • F-Gold blade for precise cuts on cane and spur
  • CUT SHIELD safety system, which reduces the risk of accidental cuts and requires the supplied conductive gloves

Who it's for?
Viticulture crews working rows for weeks at a time, who need a tool tuned for repetitive vine pruning.

Not the right fit if:
You need one pruner for different types of branches. The 834V is made specifically for vineyard work, while the 834W is the better choice for general tree and branch pruning.

What's in the kit:
Batteries, charger, conductive gloves, holster, maintenance tools (FELCO 903 sharpener, grease pump with biodegradable grease, Torx screwdriver and T-handle key), and a carrying case.

FELCO 834H. Electric Hoof Trimming

A hoof trimmer is used to trim and shape livestock hooves. The FELCO 834H takes the same cordless platform as the other 834 models but uses a cutting head designed for sheep and goat hoof care instead.

felco 834h hoof trimmer

Key features:

  • Cutting capacity: 1.57 in
  • Weight: 2.3 lb (net)
  • Power: two 14.4 V 3.0 Ah batteries with a global dual charger
  • F-Tech cutting system built for hoof material
  • Extension cable: 4.9 ft, for working around the animal
  • CUT SHIELD safety system, which reduces the risk of accidental cuts and requires the supplied conductive gloves

Who it's for:
Farms and professional livestock operations. A faster, cleaner trim means less handling time and stress for the animal, and less fatigue for the person doing the work.

Not the right fit if:
You need to cut branches or vines. The 834H is a hoof trimmer, not a pruning tool.

What's in the kit:
The FELCO 903 sharpener, a grease pump with biodegradable grease, a Torx screwdriver, a T-handle key, conductive gloves, the extension cable, a holster kit with belt and battery pouch, and a case.

The Corded Power Pack Range: FELCO 802, 812 and 822

The corded models are made for professionals who spend full days pruning. The FELCO 802, 812, and 822 all connect to a FELCO 882 power pack worn on the body, part of FELCO’s corded power pack range. A charge gives you roughly eight hours of pruning.

There are a few features shared across all three. A double-pull of the trigger switches to half-open mode, keeping the blade partly closed so you can get through smaller cuts more quickly. The progressive trigger lets you control how far the blade closes, and the FELCO app shows your battery level and cut count while you work.

Each corded pruner also comes in "+" and "-HP" variants. We explain what those mean and who they’re for in the FAQ below.

FELCO 802 - The Entry Point

The FELCO 802 cuts up to 1.18 in and is the lightest full kit in the corded range, weighing 5.57 lb with the battery and power pack included.

It comes right-handed as standard. For left-handed users, there’s the FELCO 802G-HP, which weighs 1.68 lb and is sold as the cutting head only. It doesn’t include a battery or power pack, so it’s mainly for people who already own the FELCO 882 system.

felco 802 electric corded pruner

Who it's for?
Professionals stepping up to the corded system for the first time, cutting moderate branch sizes across long shifts.

Not the right fit if:
Thicker wood needs a bigger head. Past 30 mm, that's the 812 or the 822.

What's in the kit?
The 880/196 single-capacity battery and the FELCO 882-NP power pack.

FELCO 812 - The All-rounder

The FELCO 812 cuts up to 1.38 in and is the versatile middle option in the corded range, with a kit weight of 5.7 lb.

It can handle work in vineyards, horticulture, parks, and nurseries, which makes it a practical choice when you’re not doing the same kind of pruning every day.

felco 822 corded pruning shears

Who it's for?
Crews whose work varies, who need one tool that handles it all across full working days.

Not the right fit if:
Heavy hardwood all day is really the 822's job. The 812 stays the easier tool to run across a broader mix of work.

What's in the kit?
The 880/196 single-capacity battery and the FELCO 882-NP power pack.

FELCO 822 - The Heavy Hitter

1.77 inches is the widest cut in the FELCO electric range. That's what the FELCO 822 is made to handle. It’s built for demanding work in forestry, mature orchards and heavy production pruning where thick wood is common.

The extra cutting power comes with some added weight. At 6.07 lb for the full kit, the 822 is the heaviest model in the range.

felco 822 electric corded pruning shears

Who it's for?
Forestry and orchard crews cutting thick, mature wood who need maximum capacity from these electric pruning shears.

Not the right fit if:
Your cuts rarely pass 1.37 inches. The 822's extra capacity goes unused, and the 812 gives you that range without the extra weight.

What's in the kit?
The 880/196 single-capacity battery and the FELCO 882-NP power pack.

Accessories and Spare Parts

FELCO electric pruners are built to be serviced. When a blade wears down or a battery ages, you replace the part, not the whole thing. That’s what keeps these tools working for years.

  • Spare blades keep the pruner cutting cleanly
  • Spare batteries give cordless users more time between charges
  • Extension poles give you extra reach for higher work.
  • A telescopic pole is available for the cordless 834 series, while corded models have 3.3 ft and 4.9 ft options
  • Replacement conductive gloves are available for models that use the CUT SHIELD system

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between corded and cordless electric pruners?

Cordless pruners like the 2e and 834 series carry their own battery, so there’s no separate power pack to carry. They’re a good fit for a weekend in the garden or a day of vineyard rows. Corded pruners like the 802, 812, and 822 connect to a power pack worn on the body. If you’re cutting for more than a few hours at a stretch, corded is usually the better fit.

Which FELCO electric pruner is best for vineyards?

For cordless vineyard work, the FELCO 834V is the best choice, with a 1.18 in vineyard-specific head built for cane and spur pruning. For all-day corded work, the FELCO 812 suits vineyards well. The 834V wins on cordless freedom. The 812 wins on runtime.

Are FELCO electric pruners available for left-handed users?

Yes. In the corded range, the FELCO 802G-HP is a left-handed head built for the left-hand grip. It comes without a battery or power pack, so it makes the most sense if you already own a FELCO 882 pack.

FELCO also has a left-handed 834V in its cordless vineyard range, currently listed on the European store. Genuine left-handed electric pruners are rare in this category.

Can I buy a FELCO cutting head without the power pack?

Yes. The "-HP" models are cutting heads sold separately for people who already own a FELCO 882 power pack, so you don't pay twice for the pack. The "+" designation marks the higher-capacity battery version, giving you longer time between charges.

How long do FELCO electric pruner batteries last?

The FELCO 2e gives you up to 3,000 cuts per charge. The 834 series uses two swappable 14.4 V batteries, so one can charge while the other is in use. The corded 802, 812, and 822 use the battery in the FELCO 882 power pack worn on the body, giving you roughly eight hours of pruning per charge.

The batteries are replaceable, so when the time comes and they eventually wear out, you can fit a new battery and keep using the same pruner.
